Audience Penetration: The New Key Metric in LinkedIn Campaign Manager
LinkedIn’s Campaign Manager has introduced a powerful new data metric called Audience Penetration
What Is Audience Penetration and Why Is It Important?
Audience Penetration measures the percentage of your target audience that your ads have successfully reached. For example, if your Audience Penetration is 40%, it means you’ve reached 40% of the people in your targeted audience. This metric helps you understand whether your campaign is effectively reaching your audience or if adjustments are needed.
For Example
- You build a target audience size of 250,000 people
- Your campaign dashboard shoes you’ve reached 8,000 people.
- (250,000/8,000)×100=3.2% Audience Penetration
For B2B campaigns, an ideal audience penetration rate typically falls between 10-40%.
If Audience Penetration is low, it could indicate that your audience is too large, or that you need to increase your ad spend. To achieve meaningful reach, it's recommended that website traffic ads have a minimum daily spend of $50 to $100. Ideally, your audience size should fall between 50,000 and 500,000 people for optimal results.
What If You Have High CTR But Low Audience Penetration?
When you see a high Click-Through Rate (CTR) but low Audience Penetration, this indicates that your content is engaging, but you're not reaching enough people. In this case, increasing your budget could allow your campaign to reach more of your target audience, capitalizing on your engaging content.
Boosting Audience Penetration With the LinkedIn Audience Network
One of the best ways to improve Audience Penetration is by leveraging the LinkedIn Audience Network. This feature allows your ads to be shown beyond LinkedIn, extending your reach to LinkedIn’s partner websites and apps. By expanding your reach, you ensure that your ads are seen by more of the right people, without compromising on targeting precision.
Audience Penetration in Account-Based Marketing (ABM)
For Account-Based Marketing (ABM) campaigns, high Audience Penetration is critical. These campaigns focus on highly specific, hand-selected accounts, and full reach is essential for supporting sales efforts. Since these audiences are typically more niche, Audience Penetration ensures that your ads are connecting with the right people. You can use THESE templates to upload your audience.
Combining Audience Penetration with the Audience Breakdown metrics in the Audience tab in your Campaign Manager helps you determine which accounts have been best penetrated and engaged. For ABM campaigns, it’s important to run both brand awareness and demand generation

By focusing on Audience Penetration, you can make more informed decisions about your campaign's reach, audience size, and budget. Whether you’re running broad targeting campaigns or precise ABM strategies, this metric provides clear guidance on how to maximize your impact and achieve better results.
Looks like the audience penetration metric has a limit of 90 days. The metric disappears from reports when choosing a range longer than 90 days. Do you also see that?

5moHi! I have a question: I'm running a LI website conversion campaign and I noticed that my frequency is quite high at 6.09, however audience penetration is very low at only 6.2%. I understand that if I have a large audience, the audience penetration will be slow, but how come the frequency has already reached 6 when the ad hasn't reached most of my audience?
