We’re rolling out a new, optional comment moderation setting called Pause that allows you, as creators, to prevent the creation of new comments at the video level while preserving comments that were already published. This feature has been in experiment for a little while and we’re so happy to be able to roll it out to everyone based on the positive feedback we received while testing it
Creators and moderators in the experiment group have said they use Pause to:
⭐ Gain more flexibility over how they manage their comments
⭐ Take a break from managing comments if they become overwhelming, without having to turn them off completely
More info on how it works:
⭐ Prior to Pause rolling out, if you were looking to prevent new comments from being posted on your content you only had 2 options - to hold comments for review before publishing them or to disable comments from your channels entirely
⭐ Now, you’ll see the option to select Pause in your video-level comment settings (gear icon in the upper righthand corner of the comments panel) on the watch page in the YouTube app or in YouTube Studio on both desktop and mobile
⭐ If you do decide to pause comments, your viewers will still be able to see all the existing comments - they just won’t be able to add any new ones
Also, we’re simplifying the organization and naming of certain comment settings to make it easier for you to use our comment moderation tools if you wish to. While the names of these settings have changed, the functionality remains the same. Details:
✅ On, with optional comment moderation settings -
None - Don’t hold any comments for review before publishing them
Basic - Hold potentially inappropriate comments for review
Strict - Hold a broader range of potentially inappropriate comments for review
Hold All - Hold all comments for review
✅ Pause
✅ Off
We’re excited to offer you more choice and flexibility when it comes to how you manage comments on your videos. We hope you like this update as much as we do!
