Former heavyweight champion boxer Mike Tyson talked about his experience punching a man on an April JetBlue flight.
During his Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast Friday, the retired boxer told co-host DJ Whoo Kid and guests Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson that the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office decided not to file any charges.
“Yes, they said they ain’t gonna pick up charges,” Tyson said.
In a video that has since gone viral, Tyson is seen punching a fellow plane passenger, leaving him bloodied. The man on the receiving end of Tyson’s fists was identified as Melvin Townsend III, who was reported to have been drunk while pestering the former boxer.
“He was f***ing with me, man,” Tyson said of the man’s behavior, adding he had taken a photo with Townsend. “I shouldn’t even be taking public planes. My wife gets mad I take public planes.”

“What am I going to do on a f***ing plane with my friends and [a bodyguard]?” Tyson asked. “What am I gonna do on a plane?”
The former boxer admitted that the pestering got to him.
“It triggers me,” Tyson said.

The case against Tyson, 55, was dropped due to “the conduct of the victim leading up to the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson,” San Mateo County District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe said.
Townsend reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators, authorities said.
