Inspired by Jessica McGlory, who in 2019 posted on LinkedIn about opening her calendar in a similar way to help others, we decided in June 2020 to create a network of professionals who were committed to creating access for Black individuals in the startup and marketing space.

Networks are a key factor in professional success, but Black individuals don't have access to deep professional networks in the startup and/or marketing worlds. Despite 14% of the US population being Black, at the top 75 companies in Silicon Valley, only 3% of employees are Black, and in advertising, less than 7% of employees are Black.

Now, more than 1000 startup and marketing execs have joined us to help create access for Black individuals. We've also added a jobs tab of companies that are confirmed to be currently hiring to make sure those opportunities are visible to Black individuals.

This list is just a first, small step towards creating access. We’re thinking through ways to make the impact of this effort deeper and longer-lasting, and would welcome feedback.

We’re trying to get this list shared far and wide so we can together create as many connections as possible. We've reached out to Entrepreneurship Centers at HBCUs, nonprofits focused on increasing Black representation in tech, venture capital firms that invest in Black founders, and recruiting companies that specialize in Black talent to try to get this resource shared as widely as possible.

Huge thanks to Mallori Steele, Ari Hayward, Pip Snowcroft, Serge Efap, and Solomon Reda who gave feedback along the way.

Thanks for being here,

Kate Huyett (CMO, Bombas) & Tyler Pietri (Product Manager, Klaviyo), Co-Founders
