How to Dial in Espresso - The Fundamentals of Dialing in - Made Simple!

If you're struggling to dial in espresso, if you're finding it really complex and it's just not working as you think it should - this video is for you. (Please see note below re adjusting the grind). I've done other videos on dialing in espresso, and there are tonnes of other really good videos which explain how to dial in, but I've heard from a lot of my fellow coffee botherers that a lot of these videos (including some of my earlier videos) are difficult to follow if you don't already understand all of the fundamentals of dialing in. So in this video, I'm making it really simple by taking you through all of the fundamentals explaining how to lock all of the other variables, and literally change just one thing in order to dial in. So in this video, I'm making it really simple by taking you through all of the fundamentals explaining how to lock all of the other variables, and literally change just one thing in order to dial in. Please note - I'd highly recommend only making the grind size finer when running the grinder, with beans in. I didn't during this video simply because I was single dosing, and when single dosing like this (just using the beans you're about to use) there is unlikely to be bits of bean in the burrs to get stuck when you adjust finer. I should have actually run the grinder when adjusting finer to demonstrate how you should do it (especially if you're using a hopper full of beans, and not single dosing). So just keep in mind that you should always adjust your grinder finer only when you're actually grinding coffee, so that the burrs are grinding while being adjusted finer, to prevent putting the burrs out of alignment by tightening them when not running in case a bit of bean gets trapped and sends your burrs out of alignment.
