Elvis Presley listed among Arkansas gubernatorial candidates

Some suspicious minds may be surprised to see the King of Rock and Roll on their ballots.

The Arkansas gubernatorial election features a host of candidates, including former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Elvis Presley. This Presley, who shares the name with the late singer, is a local from Star City, Arkansas. He ran for the seat in 2010 and also for the 1st Congressional District seat in 2018. This time around, he’s running as a write-in candidate.

Sanders, a Republican primary contender, totes an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Her father, Mike Huckabee, previously served as governor of the state. Talk show host Francis “Doc” Washburn is also gunning for the Republican nomination.

Rep. Jay Martin is running in the Democratic primary after serving as majority leader in the Arkansas Legislature. Other Democratic candidates include nuclear physicist Chris Jones, business owner James “Rus” Russell III, former Walmart executive Supha Xayprasith-Mays, and Little Rock School District teacher Anthony Bland.

The incumbent, Gov. Asa Hutchison, is not running again, as he has served the maximum two terms.

The seat is likely to be safe for Republicans in the general election in November.
