Minnesota man buys billboard to trash fishing friend

One Minnesota man may have fish to fry over his friend’s advertisement.

Minnesota fishing aficionado David Vee made his friendly feud public when he purchased a slot on a digital billboard near Brainerd, Minnesota, knocking his friend’s fishing skills.

“This is Troy,” the billboard reads. “He sucks at fishing. Talk smack to him at [email protected].”

Several emails have already been sent to [email protected], Vee said. Some offered Troy advice, while others talked smack to him.

Troy has terrible luck when it comes to fishing, his friend said.

“He’s been less than successful in previous trips,” Vee said.

Troy, who beamed with joy when Vee showed him the ad, retaliated, enlisting actor Christopher McDonald of Happy Gilmore to berate his friends.

“Hey Dave, Tom, Chappie, Clint, this is Shooter McGavin here. You guys really think you’re going to beat Troy on your ice fishing trip this year?” McDonald said in a clip shown to InForum.

Vee paid $300 for the ad to display five days during a major fishing tournament in Brainerd.

Despite the billboard, Vee clarified that Troy is, in actuality, a “fine fisherman.”

“I won’t tell him that to his face, but he’s a fine fisherman, and he knows how to catch a fish and all that stuff,” Vee said. “But just if there’s bad luck on the boat or in the fish house, Troy’s got it.”
