Kevin Durant wasn’t thrilled by David Letterman’s trolling at Nets media day

Former late night host David Letterman crashed the Nets’ media day — and Kevin Durant was his target.

Letterman, who introduced himself as “Dave from Basketball Digest,” asked hard-hitting questions, like, “Why do people call you ‘KD’?”

Durant explained the obvious and replied, “My first name is Kevin with a ‘K’ and my last name is Durant with a ‘D’.”

Things escalated when Letterman hit Durant with a question about playing for the Knicks.

“I just got off the phone with the Dolan family, and they said they’re talking to the [NBA] commissioner now. They’re looking to work a contractual deal that will allow you, when you’re not playing for the Nets, days off, you’ll be able to play for the Knicks,” he said, before asking Durant if he had any “comments” about it.

An unamused Durant said, “All right Dave, that was the last one.”

“I’m sorry was that a comment?” Letterman responded, to which Durant said, “That was it.”

Letterman added that he was being told to “wrap it up” and that “my time is done.”

Earlier on, when asked, “What percentage do you plan on giving on the court” this season, Durant said, “110.”

Durant remained mostly serious throughout Letterman’s random act, but laughed out loud when the longtime host asked, “When you guys play the Pelicans, does it kind of make you giggle?”

The two-time NBA champion replied, “Yeah.”

It’s unclear why Letterman was present at Brooklyn’s media day. He sat among the reporters and wore a black mask, glasses, and casual clothes.

Meanwhile, Nets star Kyrie Irving was not in-person at media day due to health and safety protocols, as he is reportedly not vaccinated against COVID-19. He addressed the media later in the day over Zoom.

The Nets will hold training camp in San Diego beginning Tuesday. They visit the Lakers in a preseason game Sunday.
