President Joe Biden appeared to momentarily forget the name of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison while announcing plans to share the United States’s nuclear-powered submarine technology with Australia.
Biden and Morrison were joined by United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson to announce the submarine deal, widely viewed as a bid to counter China.
“Thank you, Boris, and I want to thank that fellow Down Under,” Biden said at one point during the event. “Thank you very much, pal. Appreciate it, Mr. Prime Minister.”

However, Biden did refer to Morrison by name shortly after and thanked him for his country’s participation in the new working group.

“Because the future of each of our nations, and indeed, the world, depends on a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Biden said. “This is about investing in our greatest source of strength. Our alliances and updating them to better meet the threats of today and tomorrow.”
The press conferences were held simultaneously but virtually from each country’s capital city: Washington D.C., London, and Canberra.
