Connect the power supply, power cable, and HoloPort, then plug them into a power outlet.
Plug the network cable into the HoloPort and your Internet router.
Do not insert your USB into the HoloPort, at this point.
Turn on your HoloPort. You should see a blinking blue light (starting up), a flashing purple light (searching for Internet), and then a slowly rotating green & blue aurora pattern that indicates your HoloPort is running.
Your HoloPort will need some time to update to an interim version. It will reboot during this process. Depending on your Internet connection speed, this could take from several minutes to 4 hours. When it is done with this update you should see a solid blue LED.
Note at this Stage:
If your HoloPort is still showing the rotating aurora pattern after 4 hours, power off your HoloPort then power it back on and leave it to update for another 4 hours. If it is not solid blue after that, please contact customer support at [email protected].
If you see a blinking blue light for more than 2 hours, power off your HoloPort then power it back on. If the light continues to blink blue for more than 2 hours again, please contact customer support at [email protected].
Connect the USB drive that came with your HoloPort into another computer or laptop that has a USB port and web browser available (e.g. laptop, desktop).
Open a web browser and navigate to https://quickstart.holo.host.. This web application will generate your HoloPortās secure cryptographic identity keys (for the security-conscious you may disconnect from the Internet once the page is loaded). Follow that process (also described below):
8a. Using the same email you used to purchase your HoloPort, create a login and password. This will generate a secure key for your HoloPort.
8b. Save the hpos-config.json file to the USB drive that you connected to that computer and accept the Holo Alpha terms of service. Some web browsers store downloaded files in a specific directory. If you are not prompted to save the file to the location required (USB drive), please open a file browser and move the hpos-config.json file from your browserās default download directory to your USB drive. Do not change the filename (it must be hpos-config.json) or create any folders on your USB drive.
Within seconds, you should see the LED switch from solid blue to the aurora pattern. At this point it has started the Holo Hosting Network registration process.
Notes at this Stage:
If the aurora pattern does not begin after you insert the USB, try the following:
you should turn off the port, remove the USB drive, turn on the port and then when the solid blue returns, insert it into a different USB port in the back of the drive.
The file may not be stored on the USB drive correctly. You can repeat the Quickstart process being very careful to ensure that when the file is saved to the USB it has the EXACT name āhpos-config.jsonā.
After the LED has become the blue and green Aurora pattern go to your email inbox and find the confirmation message with the subject āYour HoloPort Registration!ā.Click the blue authorization button in that message to continue.
*Note: Didnāt receive the email after 15 minutes? Please check your Spam folder. Still no email? Please let us know by posting a new message on this thread.
You will see a timer begin in the browser window. Your HoloPort is configuring itself on the network. If the page does not redirect after the timer counts down, please open a ticket with [email protected].
Seeing the below screen indicates your HoloPort is working. However there are still updates that need to download at this time. Please let the HoloPort sit for an additional 2-3 hours before you log in.
Lucas and team ā working on getting my second and third ports online ā one Iāve used before, and so followed the USB reset instructions. I got all the way through the steps but never received the verification email. Currently that unit is turned on, connected, and showing Aurora. Next steps please?
On Tuesday, July 27th, barring rain (we want to film outdoors), Iām going to be filming a new holoport unboxing & setup video from the perspective of someone who has very little knowledge and hopefully explaining in such a way that helps people see how easy it can be.
If you have any ideas of what should be included in this video (e.g. questions I should ask/answer, specific things to film), please let me know! This will hopefully be the first of many beginner-centric videos for holo and holochain-interested folks.
Also, if any of you might be available that day (or afterwards, we might not be able to film everything that day) so that we can test elemental chat & chess or if we run into any issues, please DM me a contact!
Thatās lovely @PostCap! Let me know how In can help. I feel that the thread above have the steps youāll need to script the video.
Warm wishes
Lucas
@lucas.tauil We did it yesterday and it all went great! Iāll probably DM you some questions once Iāve done some editing and have a draft to showcase to make sure Iām sharing all the right information. But I suppose my biggest question right now is, āWhat do I do now?ā
In these instructions above, there isnāt a clear ānext stepā or link to know how to participate more directly. I imagine there are a lot of ways to participate further, and as part of the beginnerās group, I think itās pretty pertinent we start to build as exhaustive a list as possible. But maybe for right now, anything that comes to the top of your mind, Iād love to hear.
Iām also excited for the alpha and very interested to be on the list for when yāall can have more testers. And Iād love to be able to showcase elemental chat and elemental chess in a follow-up video once Iām in there as well. Big thanks
Hi @california thanks for reaching out! Letās continue the dialogue in this thread with the setup instructions. By clicking on the thread title on the top dark blue bar youāll see the setup instructions.
Can you confirm that you already went trough those?
Have you ever received a registration email in the past?
Hi Lucas

yes i had received registration email in the past

what to do next please
Thanks @california as you have already registered in the past please follow the instructions on the link below: Letās continue our dialogue there in case you need further help.
Hi @phil.coys, thank you for reaching out to us. Since youāve previously set up your HoloPort in the past, you can go to this thread: How to Update your HoloPort to update your HoloPort to the latest version. If you need further help, you can comment on the thread there so we could assist you further.
YES! All went well! So exciting, as this is my third day in a row of trying to get inā¦ Lost password, only one file on USB, and other hiccups.
One thing that would help for USB reset: Step 3 on the USB reset - If you clarify right on step three page, that there will be two files on the USB (hpos-config.json AND the reset file) this will help us.
After logging into the console through the email, I saw the page with the confirmed version of 0.1.4. Picture attached.
Happy you made it @dotandbrad. Thanks for the feedback. We will shortly refactor the whole registration process and will take this into account.
Warm wishes
Lucas
