HoloPort and HoloPort+ Setup

How to setup your HoloPort or HoloPort+

  1. Open the boxes. Remove the device, USB drive, network cable, power supply, and power cable.

  2. Connect the power supply, power cable, and HoloPort, then plug them into a power outlet.

  3. Plug the network cable into the HoloPort and your Internet router.

  4. Do not insert your USB into the HoloPort, at this point.

  5. Turn on your HoloPort. You should see a blinking blue light (starting up), a flashing purple light (searching for Internet), and then a slowly rotating green & blue aurora pattern that indicates your HoloPort is running.

  6. Your HoloPort will need some time to update to an interim version. It will reboot during this process. Depending on your Internet connection speed, this could take from several minutes to 4 hours. When it is done with this update you should see a solid blue LED.

  • Note at this Stage:
    • If your HoloPort is still showing the rotating aurora pattern after 4 hours, power off your HoloPort then power it back on and leave it to update for another 4 hours. If it is not solid blue after that, please contact customer support at [email protected].

    • If you see a blinking blue light for more than 2 hours, power off your HoloPort then power it back on. If the light continues to blink blue for more than 2 hours again, please contact customer support at [email protected].

  1. Connect the USB drive that came with your HoloPort into another computer or laptop that has a USB port and web browser available (e.g. laptop, desktop).

  2. Open a web browser and navigate to https://quickstart.holo.host.. This web application will generate your HoloPortā€™s secure cryptographic identity keys (for the security-conscious you may disconnect from the Internet once the page is loaded). Follow that process (also described below):

    • 8a. Using the same email you used to purchase your HoloPort, create a login and password. This will generate a secure key for your HoloPort.

    • 8b. Save the hpos-config.json file to the USB drive that you connected to that computer and accept the Holo Alpha terms of service. Some web browsers store downloaded files in a specific directory. If you are not prompted to save the file to the location required (USB drive), please open a file browser and move the hpos-config.json file from your browserā€™s default download directory to your USB drive. Do not change the filename (it must be hpos-config.json) or create any folders on your USB drive.

  • 8c. Eject the USB drive and then remove it from the computer.

  • 8d. Turn OFF your HoloPort

  • 8e. Turn ON your HoloPort

  • 8f. Wait for your HoloPort LED to become solid blue.

  • 8g. Plug the USB drive into the back of your HoloPort.

Within seconds, you should see the LED switch from solid blue to the aurora pattern. At this point it has started the Holo Hosting Network registration process.

  • Notes at this Stage:

    • If the aurora pattern does not begin after you insert the USB, try the following:
    1. you should turn off the port, remove the USB drive, turn on the port and then when the solid blue returns, insert it into a different USB port in the back of the drive.

    2. The file may not be stored on the USB drive correctly. You can repeat the Quickstart process being very careful to ensure that when the file is saved to the USB it has the EXACT name ā€˜hpos-config.jsonā€™.

  1. After the LED has become the blue and green Aurora pattern go to your email inbox and find the confirmation message with the subject ā€œYour HoloPort Registration!ā€.Click the blue authorization button in that message to continue.

Subject: Your HoloPort Registration!

*Note: Didnā€™t receive the email after 15 minutes? Please check your Spam folder. Still no email? Please let us know by posting a new message on this thread.

  1. You will see a timer begin in the browser window. Your HoloPort is configuring itself on the network. If the page does not redirect after the timer counts down, please open a ticket with [email protected].

  2. Seeing the below screen indicates your HoloPort is working. However there are still updates that need to download at this time. Please let the HoloPort sit for an additional 2-3 hours before you log in.

  1. Log in using the credentials you created on the Quickstart process and you should see the Host Console in the image below.

Congratulations! You are now a part of the Holo Hosting network!

This is the end of the HoloPort setup and registration process.

If you still canā€™t get setup then please post a message with details on the thread below or contact customer service at help.holo.host.

@soarecosmin let me ask you a few questions so that I can better help you.

  1. Can you share a print screen of the files in your USB drive with me for us to try to understand why you did not get a registration email?
  2. Also did you have a solid blue light before inserting your USB drive?
  3. Did the Led light change to aurora when you inserted the USB dirve?
    Thanks
    Lucas

Lucas and team  ā€“ working on getting my second and third ports online ā€“ one Iā€™ve used before, and so followed the USB reset instructions. I got all the way through the steps but never received the verification email. Currently that unit is turned on, connected, and showing Aurora. Next steps please?

Hi @kabir thanks for reaching out. Let me ask you some questions to better help you:

  1. Did you allow the HoloPort a couple of hours connected to the Internet to update?
  2. Did your HoloPort led turn to aurora when you inserted your USB drive with the Json file in it?
  3. Have you checked your spam mail?
    Thanks
    Lucas

Hey @lucas.tauil & all,

On Tuesday, July 27th, barring rain (we want to film outdoors), Iā€™m going to be filming a new holoport unboxing & setup video from the perspective of someone who has very little knowledge and hopefully explaining in such a way that helps people see how easy it can be.

If you have any ideas of what should be included in this video (e.g. questions I should ask/answer, specific things to film), please let me know! This will hopefully be the first of many beginner-centric videos for holo and holochain-interested folks.

Also, if any of you might be available that day (or afterwards, we might not be able to film everything that day) so that we can test elemental chat & chess or if we run into any issues, please DM me a contact!

Thanks!

@lucas.tauil We did it yesterday and it all went great! Iā€™ll probably DM you some questions once Iā€™ve done some editing and have a draft to showcase to make sure Iā€™m sharing all the right information. But I suppose my biggest question right now is, ā€œWhat do I do now?ā€

In these instructions above, there isnā€™t a clear ā€œnext stepā€ or link to know how to participate more directly. I imagine there are a lot of ways to participate further, and as part of the beginnerā€™s group, I think itā€™s pretty pertinent we start to build as exhaustive a list as possible. But maybe for right now, anything that comes to the top of your mind, Iā€™d love to hear.

Iā€™m also excited for the alpha and very interested to be on the list for when yā€™all can have more testers. And Iā€™d love to be able to showcase elemental chat and elemental chess in a follow-up video once Iā€™m in there as well. Big thanks

hello,

after setup and registration process? just let running with green and blue rotating light?

Hi @stefanschindler1 welcome! Just replied to your Direct Message.

@2010grant, letā€™s give it a try. Just sent you one.

Since the physical manual that came with the holoport+ is outdated, I am wondering, is there somewhere a digital manual that is up to date?

I am asking because Iā€™d like to find all light patterns and their meaning, so far I have:

  • blue light (flashing): starting up
  • blue light: ??
  • purple light (flashing): :construction: searching for internet
  • yellow light (blinking): :construction: ??
  • rotating green & blue aurora pattern: :tada: holoport is running :tada:

Thanks!

YES! All went well! So exciting, as this is my third day in a row of trying to get inā€¦ Lost password, only one file on USB, and other hiccups.

One thing that would help for USB reset: Step 3 on the USB reset - If you clarify right on step three page, that there will be two files on the USB (hpos-config.json AND the reset file) this will help us.
After logging into the console through the email, I saw the page with the confirmed version of 0.1.4. Picture attached.

Hurray!!! Thank you team!
