The account of Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan was suspended by Twitter for a post praising the success of the southern border wall in keeping “murderers” and “sexual predators” from entering the country, according to a report on Thursday.
Morgan’s account was suspended on Wednesday for violating Twitter’s rules for “hateful conduct,” according to the Federalist, citing screenshots of the offending tweet.
“@CBP $ @USACHEQ continue to build new wall every day. Every mile helps stop gang members, murderers, sexual predators, and drugs from entering our country. It’s a fact, walls work,” Morgan’s post said.
Morgan was consequently sent an email from Twitter notifying him of the suspension.
“You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease,” the email said.
Morgan told the Federalist he hasn’t had any problems with tweets about the wall or the work border agents do to keep Americans safe in the past, and wondered whether there was a shift in Twitter policy or its algorithms.
“If you look at the tweet in question, again, every mile helps us stop gang members, murderers, and pedophiles from entering our country. It’s just a fact,” he said.
Twitter’s action came the same day CEO Jack Dorsey was testifying before a Senate panel about allegations it censored conservative voices on the platform.
Dorsey, during his appearance before the Senate Commerce Committee, assured Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) that the company had lifted a ban on users tweeting articles from The Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine and China, even though the prohibition was still in effect.
“Anyone can tweet these articles,” Dorsey said.
But his comment was quickly called out.
“Jack Dorsey of Twitter just told Senator Cruz that anyone could now share the NY Post’s bombshell stories on Twitter. Dorsey is lying,” tweeted Abigail Marone, who works for President Trump’s re-election campaign’s rapid response team, linking to a screen recording of the app blocking the post.
Morgan said Twitter suspended his account without first consulting with the Department of Homeland Security about the wall use in preventing criminals from illegally entering the US.
“I’m sure somebody on that Twitter team has heard that everyone that illegally enters are just good people looking for a better way of life,” Morgan told the Federalist. “The American people ultimately don’t get to hear the truth because someone at Twitter, based on their own ideology, pushed a button to prevent the truth from coming out.”
