Davao City has solid prospects to recover ICT ranking
Davao City was edged out of the Top 100 digital super cities in the 2020 Tholons survey, but the city is expected to bounce back and emerge stronger in future ICT surveys due to its pending solid infrastructure projects and firm support for innovation and digital transformation.
According to Atty. Samuel Matunog, president of ICT Davao, Inc., this is “not a surprising development,” as the Philippines is embarking on a reform agenda that will directly benefit and transform cities like Davao City.
Further, the emergence of new telco players are expected to “dramatically improve” the internet infrastructure over time, especially in the countryside. The city is also looking forward to a better peace and order situation in Davao Region, noting that several infrastructure projects underway will improve the investment climate in the city – encouraging the influx of new players and investors in the ICT industry.
