Transfer of China-based US companies to Indonesia an edge to SEA outsourcing industry, says senator
The United States government’s plans to transfer their China-based factories to Indonesia confirms a growing economic trend favoring Southeast Asian countries as alternative sites to manufacturing, said Imee Marcos, senator and chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Economic Affairs.
According to Marcos, Western countries facing recession due to the pandemic are now compelled to outsource as much of their production as they could to cheaper suppliers, in order to maintain prices.
“As a result, I think our BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) sector will recover sooner than predicted. If we gear up for outsourcing, we may finally derive investments in manufacturing and other essential sectors,” Marcos said.
